A leadership programme in English
Once
I was asked to do a language program for the monitors who were newly appointed
for that term. Therefore, I prepared a one-hour program for the monitors who
were in grade two to build up their leadership qualities.
Following
were the objectives that I expected:
v Develop
Corporation skills
v Build
confidence in expressing themselves
v Improve
communication skills
v Foster
creativity and participation
v Promote
respect and team spirit
I started the program by
welcoming the students in a new way. They had to decide which greeting type
that they’re going to choose to greet the teacher. That helped them to make
their own decision. After welcoming, I started a discussion with the students
about the meaning of the word “leader”. I gave a meaning to each and every
letter.
L – Loyalty
E – Empathy
A – Ambition
D- Discipline
E – Encouragement
A – Adaptability
R – Respect
After that I did some group
work with them, and they did it collaboratively. They discussed with each other,
listen to peers and agreed with other’s suggestions. Finally within a time period
they presented their group work. Each and every one had a turn, and they worked
together enthusiastically.
Then we moved to another session, a guessing game. Students had to select a paper stripe ,read it and act it out what it says.Others had
to guess the word. After that we had a singing session, and all the students
sang and dance for the music. They enjoyed that activity a lot.
Leaders practiced activities
which were integrated the four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking
.This program provided them many opportunities and experiences to be
independent and skillful leaders.

This is a very well-planned and meaningful leadership programme. I really appreciate how English is used as a tool to develop confidence, communication, and teamwork in young learners. The activities you described are creative and age-appropriate, and the way you explained the word “leader” is especially inspiring. A great example of combining language learning with leadership skills—well done!
